Meet Elena Garcia, 2017 Legacy & WingTapper Tour Scholarship Winner, representing the Lapan College Club
Elena is one of our most effective and influential mentors in the Cross Age Peer Mentoring Program of the Lapan College Club. During her first year she emerged as a leader of the mentoring team with her thoughtful insights and sensitivity in building a relationship with the 6th grade protégés.
Elena made a commitment to mentor her protégé during the entire school year despite her busy schedule devoted to maintaining her high academic standing and participating in extracurricular activities at Pueblo. She is a compassionate, loving but firm, role model with a genuine spirit of community service that she inculcates upon her protégé as she works with her on improving her academics and on college readiness activities.

Why do you want to participate in the 2017 Legacy Tour to DC & NYC, Celebrating Women in History? What do you expect to learn and why do you deserve to go?
For my Junior AP US History class we discussed about the Seneca Falls Convention and all that women did to fight for suffrage, like Elizabeth Stanton among others too which is why I would like to participate in the 2017 Legacy Tour. I think this trip will be really inspiring and I expect to learn more about Women History as we go to these places and take home a great experience.
What inspires you?
Knowing that I can be and will be the first generation in my family to attend college inspires me because it makes me work harder. It is a goal that I strive for, it is good to have self confidence to push yourself to where you need to be.
What is one thing you need to make your dreams come true?
I need scholarships to make my dreams come true, for it has always been my dream to graduate high school and attend a University and pursue the career or my choice.
